Shalom TBAY!
Wondering what we discussed this past Shabbat? Here is a link to Friday night’s D’Var Torah: That I May Dwell Among Them.
On Shabbat morning, we discussed God’s commandment that the ark be covered with gold inside and out. Yitro’s comment to Moses that continuing to hear the Israelites’ disputes alone would be too heavy a burden. You can find the Source Sheet here. Some questions we considered were: Was it one ark covered on the inside and outside or was it three nested inside each other? (The rabbis disagree!) Does this distinction matter? Why or why not? If it means three arks, why? Why not just have one ark of gold? Finally, what is the relevance of this for how we live our lives? That our character inside must match the outside? What do you think?
