We are delighted to welcome you to the meaningful and rewarding experience of preparing for and celebrating a B- Mitzvah at TBAY.
Our children spend many years in our religious school discovering our history and learning to participate in Jewish life, and we are proud to commemorate this transformational milestone with them. We also encourage you and your entire family to participate in the entire process as it is also a transitional moment for the entire family.
In addition to their learning in the classroom, our students work one-on-one with Rabbi Rubin and our Cantorial Soloist Ben Rosenbach in the year leading up their special day.
Our students learn Torah, Haftarah (readings from the Prophets), t’fillah (prayers) and songs.
They each deliver a D’Var Torah – a lesson on the week’s Torah portion, along with a reflection on how they will make the world a better place and what they have learned through this process of embracing Jewish adulthood.
Whether the service is Shabbat morning, Shabbat afternoon or a Sunday morning Festival (Sukkot or Chanukah) or Rosh Chodesh (new moon) service, the student will help lead the entire service, along with the prior Friday night Kabbalat Shabbat service.
We are proud of how much our students learn and how they shine on the Bima! You can see our B-Mitzvah planning overview here.
